The Kempowski Yearbook is a regularly published periodical and the essential organ of the research on Kempowski. It brings together current research contributions on a particular topic and provides information in a literature report and via reviews of current publications dealing with Kempowski . The section "Aus dem Archiv" (From the Archive) presents and comments on finds from Kempowski's extensive and heterogeneous archive holdings.

Volume 2 of the Kempowski Yearbook is devoted to the novel Schöne Aussicht (1981). From the viewpoint of family Kempowski, the everyday is portrayed between social coldness and the politically heated atmosphere of the interwar period. The novel illuminates different social milieus and characters and characterises the, often weakened, ›family ties‹. They reflect the inner distance of the middle classes to the great ideologies of the time.

Volume 1 of the Kempowski Yearbook addresses Mark und Bein. Although scholarly reception can be detected rapidly, which recognised the potential of this narrative, it is remarkable that a more lively reception has not occurred. Kempowski's so-called "episode" is full of provocative scenes and offensive characters - and far from politically correct. It is an experiment in cruelty and as such must challenge the recieving community.
